If you are new to the game it can be puzzling, because there are many ways to bet. You play Craps as a series of rounds, with the first roll being called the Come Out roll. A game can sometimes be decided on the basis of the Come Out roll alone. For example, when you roll a 2, 3, 7, 11, or 12 this will immediately end the round. For any other number rolled (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10), this is called the Point . You will make the Come Out roll when the previous shooter fails to make the Point or seven out.
Everyone around the Craps table throws the dice in turn. Should you not wish to throw, you can assign a thrower to throw the dice for you. In this case you bet on his or her result. You can make many kinds of bet around the Craps table.
The craps table layout has three distinct areas a center area and two side areas that are copies of one another. The side areas have these zones: Pass and Don't Pass line bets, Come and Don't Come bets, Odds bet, Place bets and Field bets. The center area is designated Proposition bets.
Winning/losing plays
Pass Bets - If you throw a Come Out roll of 7 or 11 you win. Losing numbers are 2, 3, or 12.
Don't Bets - This is the reverse situation: with a Come Out roll of 7 or 11 you will lose, whereas you will win when the roll is 2 or 3.
Don't Bets - A roll of 12 is treated as a tie an opportunity for a second and decisive roll. Some casinos treat 2 in the same way.
Types of bets
Pass Line Bet - A first roll of 7 or 11 is called a Natural Win. A natural lose (Craps) is 2, 3, or 12.
Odds on Pass Line Bet - When you roll a Point , you can place an additional bet by taking odds. Each point will have different payoffs.
Come Bet - You have the same rules here as for the Pass Line bet. However only after you have determined the point on the pass line can you action the bet.
Odds on Come Bet - This is the same as Odds on Pass Line bet, but you will take odds on the Come Bet and not on the Pass Line bet.
Don't Pass Line Bet - Just like the Pass Line bet, but in reverse. A first roll of 7 or 11 will give you a natural win. You lose with 2 or 3.
Don't Come Bet - Think of the opposite of the Come Bet, where you win on 2 or 3 and lose on 7 or 11.
Place Bets - Once you have fixed the Point you can make this bet. You are betting that the dice will deliver any of these numbers: 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. This bet can be cancelled at any time.
Field Bets - One roll of the dice here and you win or lose: 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12 gives you a win, while 5, 6, 7 and 8 are losers. Big Six, Big Eight Bets - You will bet here that a 6 or 8 will come before a 7. These are even bets, paying odds of 1:1.
